Day14

Day 14..Return to Yellowstone

Earlyish start, and after “breaking camp” hitched up the wagon and headed back to town for supplies.. which included another visit to the “Huntin Fishin” store. Had our first shopping experience at Walmart!! Crikey.. what a shop! And leaving town, headin West, we ran in to a Factory Fireworks store where Claude and Pete (and me) would love to do some shopping. . and it would really liven up Guy Fawkes night in NZ! Continued West without any crackers, into Buffalo Bill country, oh, and had a brief stop at his original saloon, bar, hotel.. The Irma, its called, after his daughter.. quite a character he was.

The drive in the Eastern entrance of Yellowstone, from Cody is listed as one of the top scenic routes in the country.. we would not vote for that, and thought the North Eastern was way better.. however, it is nice, and we were very glad we did come bck to the park that way, as otherwise we may have missed out on our “Grizzly” moment, which so far today would have to rate as the most impressive wildlife one we’ve had. The photos of course can’t really do it justice.. very cool.. he/she was really beautiful, large and not just a little intimidating!

Sitting in the van at the moment, bison all over the place and people being really dumb, getting so close, and its mating season so there are a lot of pretty aggressive bulls around.. had a couple just come past about 5 metres away. Park Ranger lady busily trying to stop the folks getting thumped.. I think I’ve mentioned, but way more people get hurt in the park each year by bison than by bears.

We’re waiting here in the Hayden Valley for the evening in the hope of seeing more wolves.. …. To be continued
